My bachelors degree
is in online journalism and so much of what I was doing at Eastern Illinois
University was learning to edit video, record and edit podcasts and put
all these items into a neat Web production using Flash or Dreamweaver
to tell a story. The following are the projects from my EIU days that I
am most proud of.
This project was one where I followed a memory of Martin Luther King Jr.
march at EIU and then interviewed professors on their memories of the
man behind the holiday.
In this podcast, I visited Wea Ink in Charleston, Ill. and learned how local tattoo parlors function.
Harlem Globetrotters Multimedia Package
The Harlem Globetrotters came to Eastern and were welcomed by 1,726 people.
This package tells about that experience with a story, a slideshow and a
video.
Interactive Reporting Multimedia Project on Racism This was a semester long project with the intent to combat racism at Eastern. The process involved talking to adminstration, faculty, and students and gathering those collection of interviews into podcasts and video.
Eastern Illinois Baseball Package
This baseball package covers all the
bases on the opening of the 2008 Eastern Illinois boys baseball season.
At first base is a hitting video; at second base is the story, complete
with video and pictures; at third base is a Google Map of where the team
traveled to in the season and at the pitcher's mound is a pitching
video.
Greek Week in ReviewEvery spring, the Greek community on Eastern's campus participates in Greek Week. Greek Week is a week-long competition of all sorts: fine arts, athletic, wits and I documented it here in this mini Web site complete with videos, podcasts, photos and stories.
Iraq War Protest
For
a span of five days, I followed Eastern students in their protest for
peace in the Iraq War. This package won me a Pacemaker award for online
journalism and although it's nice having the award, the experience
was what I'll remember most.
Hockey Web Site Project
I covered Eastern Illinois University hockey and produced a Web site for a
class project that included stories, podcasts and photo
